Researchers from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland and Hoshi University, Tokyo held a joint seminar on October 30th and 31st in Tokyo. The seminar, entitled Future Heathcare – Technology and Applications, followed on from a previous joint seminar held in Dublin. Prof John Waddington led a group of ten researchers from RCSI on the visit to Tokyo, another step in strengthening his already close relationship with Hoshi University.

The seminar and visit were supported by the Embassy of Ireland in Japan and IDA Ireland. Speaking at the seminar, Ambassador Anne Barrington said: “This inaugural two-day workshop on “Future Healthcare – Biomedical Sciences, Technologies and Applications” is an opportunity to showcase the important research ongoing in both universities. I would suggest that the strong link between Hoshi University and RCSI is another important example of the close relationship which exists between Japan and Ireland, despite the distance that separates us.”

The Ministry of Education, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT; and the EU Delegation to Japan kindly supported the seminar by each giving a presentation on opportunities for collaboration between Ireland and Japan.

The seminar was well attended and proved to be an inspiring and positive milestone for all involved.
